In selecting this location, the NDCHS Steering Committee considered several factors including financial viability, quality of student experience, proximity to population centers within the deanery, and potential for growth in the early years.

As the NDCHS leadership team moves forward, it remains focused on:

1. Attracting a community of NDCHS supporters – donors, parents and students.
2. Finalizing the school budget for 2026/2027 school year and beyond.
3. Exploring transportation options for students coming from across the region.
4. Securing final approval from the Archdiocese by early 2026.
5. Preparing the building.
6. Attracting initial teachers and staff.
7. Continuing to identify and plan for a permanent campus that can optimally serve our Northern Deanery community in the years ahead.

Faithful Stewards, Devoted Family, and Champions of Catholic Education

Jamie and Jeanne Twining, longtime parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, first moved to Bellingham from Southern California in 1982. They settled on a small “gentleman’s farm,” where they raised animals and nurtured both the land and their young family. Soon after, Jamie founded a financial planning firm, while Jeanne focused on raising their children in the Catholic faith—a devotion shaped by their shared upbringing and lifelong connection, having first met as children when their fathers served together in the Marine Corps.

All four of the Twinings’ adult children and all eleven grandchildren have attended or will attend Assumption Catholic School in Bellingham. The couple are dedicated supporters of Catholic education and continue to live out their faith through family traditions like weekly Sunday dinners. Reflecting on his blessings, Jamie said, “My wife, children, and grandchildren are the brightest lights in my life, and the greatest gifts God has given me.”

This May, Jamie and Jeanne stepped up as Cornerstone Investors for the Northern Deanery High School project. Through their personal investment, the Twinings have now enabled us to take some exciting steps forward, both by hiring new staff and beginning recruitment for the first freshman class.

“It was on our minds and hearts…a matter of faith to realize that God is calling me to do this regardless of what the personal benefits to my family are. And the idea that sometimes you just need that first person to do that small thing, so that others will begin to follow,” Jamie shared.

Jeanne continued, “It’s this unique blend of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and moral development that’s rooted in our faith. We thought, somebody has got to get this up and going.”

Supporting a new high school takes vision and faith—but it’s also exciting. They believe that many others will see the vision and value of the school as well. Jamie invites our Catholic community to “rise to the challenge. Have the courage to step forward and to build something meaningful.”

“Nothing that is worthwhile or transcendent comes easily,” he said. “This is a big challenge, and when a small group of people pull together to achieve something great, they form a special bond. This will be an exciting time for the families who have the courage to step up. It will be a rich spiritual and cultural experience.”

Jamie and Jeanne shared that their ultimate hope is “that the school becomes a legacy for many generations to come.”

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andy Remien as Director of Implementation for the Northern Deanery Catholic High School, effective July 1.

A dedicated educator and active member of the Catholic community, Andy brings over 26 years of experience as an administrator, teacher, and coach. He is an alumnus of Gonzaga University and holds both a Doctorate and Master’s in Education and has served in public schools in Whatcom and Skagit Counties, most recently as a principal in the Mount Baker School District. Andy was also an officer in the United States Navy and served a combat deployment in Afghanistan.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Andy is a devoted husband to Jo and father of two children, Benny and Henry, who currently attend Assumption Catholic School. The Remiens are members of the Sacred Heart Parish. We are deeply grateful to welcome him into this pivotal leadership role. His faith, expertise, and passion for education will be instrumental in engaging our community, securing diocesan approval, and ultimately bringing this long-awaited school to life.

The Northern Deanery Catholic High School is launching an Ambassador program to help support engagement and recruitment for its first freshman class. While the proposed school is still in its approval phase, securing student enrollment will help the complete the approval process with the Archdiocese.

Ambassadors—both parent and student leaders—will play a key role in:

The Northern Deanery Steering Committee launched a new Development subcommittee in early May with a gathering of parents, priests, and community members. The newly formed team committed to two key development goals: 1) raise awareness about the high school, and 2) build community support for both enrollment and funding.

One of the first steps for the new subcommittee will be connecting with current Assumption and ICRS 6th and 7th grade parents to share information about the high school, answer questions, and identify interested startup families. These meetings are coming soon and will inform crucial decisions related to both location and timeline.
