Faithful Stewards, Devoted Family, and Champions of Catholic Education
Jamie and Jeanne Twining, longtime parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, first moved to Bellingham from Southern California in 1982. They settled on a small “gentleman’s farm,” where they raised animals and nurtured both the land and their young family. Soon after, Jamie founded a financial planning firm, while Jeanne focused on raising their children in the Catholic faith—a devotion shaped by their shared upbringing and lifelong connection, having first met as children when their fathers served together in the Marine Corps.
All four of the Twinings’ adult children and all eleven grandchildren have attended or will attend Assumption Catholic School in Bellingham. The couple are dedicated supporters of Catholic education and continue to live out their faith through family traditions like weekly Sunday dinners. Reflecting on his blessings, Jamie said, “My wife, children, and grandchildren are the brightest lights in my life, and the greatest gifts God has given me.”
This May, Jamie and Jeanne stepped up as Cornerstone Investors for the Northern Deanery High School project. Through their personal investment, the Twinings have now enabled us to take some exciting steps forward, both by hiring new staff and beginning recruitment for the first freshman class.
“It was on our minds and hearts…a matter of faith to realize that God is calling me to do this regardless of what the personal benefits to my family are. And the idea that sometimes you just need that first person to do that small thing, so that others will begin to follow,” Jamie shared.
Jeanne continued, “It’s this unique blend of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and moral development that’s rooted in our faith. We thought, somebody has got to get this up and going.”
Supporting a new high school takes vision and faith—but it’s also exciting. They believe that many others will see the vision and value of the school as well. Jamie invites our Catholic community to “rise to the challenge. Have the courage to step forward and to build something meaningful.”
“Nothing that is worthwhile or transcendent comes easily,” he said. “This is a big challenge, and when a small group of people pull together to achieve something great, they form a special bond. This will be an exciting time for the families who have the courage to step up. It will be a rich spiritual and cultural experience.”
Jamie and Jeanne shared that their ultimate hope is “that the school becomes a legacy for many generations to come.”
